THE LATEST round of matches in the Symes Robinson & Lee-sponsored Budleigh Evening League once again produced some competitive bowling. In the first match, Budleigh Hawks against Budleigh Falcons, honours were even after seven ends but then the Falcons pulled away to win on both rinks and take maximum points in a 41-32 victory. The best performing triple in this match was Don Huish, Harry Vanstone and skip Terry Kelly who gained twelve shots on the thirteenth and fourteenth ends on the way to their 22-15 win. In the other match, Budleigh Buzzards against Madeira Red, the rinks were shared one each with the Buzzards winning 49-33 on aggregate. In this match the Buzzards' triple of Rod Freer, Keith Ward and skip Alan Pearson were never in trouble, leading all the way through to score an emphatic 31-8 victory. In the over 60s County Trophy Budleigh were well beaten by Plymouth, losing on all four rinks and by 109-64 overall. The Budleigh rink of Ken Thomas, Alban Chase, Ron Tyler and skip Archie Autton held their own until the seventeenth end when the score was 18-17 but the visitors finished strongly to win 29-23.
