Exmouth Town chairman Stuart Shaw is delighted with how things are progressing off the Southern Road pitch and he now has a specific project in his sights.

He explained saying: “The Donkey Sanctuary area is one I am keen to turn into a multi-purpose all-weather training area that the teams - and the wider community -can use.”

He continued: “I am hoping there will be some local businesses who will step forward to help with this particular project which will, when completed, make such a huge difference to our whole club make-up.”

The Town chairman has already been humbled by the support that is coming forward to help his various projects and he is particularly keen to thank local company Bradfords Building Supplies.

Shaw says: “They [Bradfords] have been brilliant and I am so grateful to them.

“There’s little doubt that they are a big supporter of all things within the Exmouth community and that is very much where I see us as a football club, getting involved with the local community in all manner of ways.”

With regard to this new project and the proposed training area, the Town chairman says: “I know this sounds very much like a pun, but I am determined that the grass will not grow under our feet on this training ground plan.

“I see it as a fundamental requirement to us being able to have our players training at Southern Road come rain or shine. I am also very keen that we have a facility that local folk can use. It is my long-term vision for that area that it ultimately is home to an all-weather training surface, but in the short term I am hoping it will not take us long to get the area levelled so that we can get some goals put up and use it almost straight away. The next phase will be to have the G3 surface, but that of course does require funding and I would love to hear from anyone involved in local business who can get involved with us on this and our other projects.”

On the way things are moving in general at the club, the Town chairman says: “There is a really strong positive feel about all things Southern Road at the moment.

“It is always exciting when the players report back and you get back into that ryhthm of having folk in and around the football club on a regular daily basis. Lots of folk are pitching in and helping, and anyone reading this who can also help is asked to call me”
