Former England number one table tennis player, Alex Perry, visited Exmouth’s Exe Table Tennis Club to support their open day last Saturday.
Alex, who has won four Commonwealth Gold medals,13 Senior nation titles and represented England in six European and five World Championships, was in Devon on a family visit and kindly gave the club his time to promote the sport and to encourage the youngsters at the club to greater success.
Several junior players benefited from one to one coaching and Alex was pleased with the standard of play within the club.
Junior club member, Matthew Wellington, said: “Alex helped me with my forehand return and he was pleased that I returned 40 shots in a row.”
The open day was a huge success with over 100 people coming through the door and trying out the sport or returning to table tennis after a break of many years.
Club Chairman, Howard Back, would like to thank all those who helped organise the day and welcomes all new members to the club which meets on Tuesday evenings at the Community College sports hall starting on September 13.
Exe TT would also like to thank local business M and D Motors, Tesco, Farmhouse Inn, LED, Krispies and Gossips for their support - £160 was raised which will be spent on new equipment for the club. For more information on Exe TT please contact Howard Back 01395 233831
