Exmouth Sea Angling Association members catch smoothhounds in latest meeting

Exmouth Sea Angling Association members have been catching plaice and smoothounds from the local East Devon beaches, plaice being caught predominantly on worm baits with the hounds coming on squid and crab baits, writes Tim Clotworthy.
The recent landslip at Sidmouth has made fishing at Salcombe Regis pretty dire as the silty coloured water is not favoured by the hounds or plaice.
Amongst the top catches was one by Nick Chandler, who landed a personal best smoothound of 8lb 4oz caught on whole squid bait, George Drew, who caught one of the three smoothounds caught in the same evening and Tim Clotworthy, who landed a nice plaice weighing in at 1lb 10oz caught on a running ledger with peeler crab bait on a size one hook.
