There was a good turnout recently for the last open weekend rover event of the season for the ESAA with most members staying local, writes Simon Boeree.
River Exe flounder have put in a good showing this year so anglers were out in force targeting the humble ‘fluke’. It was junior member, Calum Rowe from Exmouth who showed the seniors how it’s done this time with a new junior record flounder of 2lb exactly. Young Rowe’s catch also earning him the prize for best specimen of the event and he also won a spot prize of a bottle of wine (donated by Babs and Dave Westcott): the wine was of course dutifully handed directly to the young anglers dad Paul!
On the day, there were also a few whiting, pouting, dogfish and mackerel caught with first place going to competition secretary Brian ‘the Viking’ Reed recording 272 per cent.
In second place was Exmouth’s Andy Browning with 204 per cent while local angler Mike ‘the Crab’ Richardson took third with 185 per cent.
