After a poor season last year, followed by a very late start to the 2013 season, at last there are specimen fish to report for ESAA members, writes Simon Boere.
Exmouth angler Gaz Bowden recorded a specimen ballan wrasse a short time ago while members report several specimen sized dabs of late.
Bass and dover sole have also been recorded this season.
However, the best of the recent catch was the fish landed by ESAA chairman, Martin ‘Taffy’ Pearce who, fishing at Minehead, landed a small-eyed ray weighing in at 9lb 4oz.
The fish exceeded the regional specimen weight best for the species by a whole pound and a quarter!
The Ray fell to a sand eel bait fished on a pulley rig and Pearce also landed some good spotted ray on the trip.
