The six-race Exeter 5K Series came to an end on the first Tuesday in September with a field just one short of a hundred, writes Dave Eveleigh.

Overall awards were decided after adding runners’ best five times together.

On the night Exmouth Harrier Pete Fletcher was eighth in 17:26, but clinched the Series title for Senior Men, around six minutes in front of clubmate Chris Dupain who sat this last race out.

Jon Garrity was13th and third man aged 40-44 on the night and was third overall in that category.

Andrew Johnson was 47th in 20:24 at this last race and fourth overall in the 50-54 age category, about three minutes behind the category third place time.

Both Jon and Andrew’s times were very consistent, Jon’s five times all falling between 18:08 and 18:27, while Andrew, after clocking 20:47 in May, in successive months ran 20:24, 32, 33 and 24! With not enough races for series standings were Richard Bishop and Les Turner. Richard came 22nd and third man aged 45-49 in this race and recorded a new personal best of 19:17, having recorded 20:08 in July and 19:40 in August. Les was Exmouth’s Super Veterans’ representative for the evening, recording 30:12 as an Over-70.
