The fifth of six Westward Cross Country League fixtures took place on a demanding course at Bovey Tracy last Sunday, and Exmouth Harriers continue to make an impression in this winter-long competition, writes Dave Eveleigh.
In the Senior Men’s race, contested by 177, Tom Merson kept his winning streak going, taking 32:46 for the 9.3km course. In 10th (34:29) was Jamie Palmer who now looks certain to be fist man age 45-49.
Tony Hatchard was a couple of minutes down on Jamie with 36:24 in 12th and the reliable Adam Miller 26th in 38:23.
The fifth scorer, returning to racing on just the right day was Marc Cox 58th in 43:07 who earned an invaluable 244 points for the team. Indeed with only five running for Exmouth in the race it is thank to Marc that Exmouth Harriers men already look like they will go one better than last year and finish runners-up in this established South West Peninsula-wide league after the final fixture in Redruth next month.
