Early on Saturday morning, Exmouth Harriers Nick Ramm and Jim Comer set off with over 200 other runners from Belstone on the northern edge of Dartmoor in Puretrail UK’s latest Ultramarathon with the goal of running 36 miles across Dartmoor to finish in Ivybridge within 10.5 hours.
The route took them through the two moorland villages of Postbridge and Princetown and included 1,119m of ascent and 1,516m of descent.
It was Nick and Jim’s first Ultramarathon, the weather was perfect (for Dartmoor) and there was plenty of mud to add to the challenge.
They finished in just under 9 hours and Nick said afterwards “It was beautiful, boggy, bleak at times and for the most part, brilliant - our first Ultramarathon of many I think.”
Their next Ultramarathon is the Chagford challenge, in six weeks time on 26th September, a 32-mile self-navigation on Dartmoor starting and finishing in Chagford, where they will be joined by a few fellow Harriers.
