The Bideford Half Marathon, run on the second Sunday of March, had 1,263 finishers, writes Cathy Newman.
The winner, Shaun Antell, had included a win in the Exmouth Fulford Five race as part of his preparations.
The course starts in Bideford and follows the River Torridge to Great Torrington where it joins the Tarka Cycle Path heading back to Bideford.
This first half of the race is undulating with the second part being predominantly flat, thus providing the potential for fast times.
On this occasion it was a little windy, but nonetheless Exmouth Harriers turned in good performances.
Paula Hawkins, currently preparing for the London Marathon and improving seemingly week by week, ran a new Personal Best (PB) to finish ninth in the F40 category with her time being 1:41.33.
Lisa Hatchard was 12th in the same category just over a minute behind, whilst Roger Riggs, returning to racing after a significant break, did very well to finish 29th in the M60 competition.
Team captain Mike Musgrove was, as expected, the first Exmouth Harrier to finish; he won the M45 category with 1:18.02 for an 11th overall place.
This coming Sunday (March 18), the Exmouth Harriers men’s team will be taking part in the prestigious National Road Relays being held in Birmingham.
Several other members of the club will tackle the infamous Grizzly off-road race in East Devon.
