Exmouth Harrier Marc Cox in top one hundred at the Bristol Half Marathon

In a field of tens of thousands three Exmouth Harriers had outstanding runs at the Bristol Half-Marathon, writes Dave Eveleigh.

Marc Cox was 63rd in 78:48, very close to a new lifetime best. Then in 444th place and 26th of hundreds in his Men Age 45-49 age group was Richard Bishop in 89:50. Dave Wright was 568th and 28th in the Men Age 50-54 group, also hundreds strong.

Meanwhile across the Severn Bridge Cathy Newman was coming up with an equally impressive result at the 3,000 strong Swansea Bay 10K. She was 14th overall (that is of all runners, male and female), was second woman and was first in her 50-54 year-old female age group. All in a magnificent time of 39:11 and Cathy currently sits 5th in that female age group in the UK.

If the Bristol Half and Swansea Bay 10K are part of road racing’s equivalent of football’s premiership of road racing then Sidmouth Running Club’s ‘Little Long Run’ multi-terrain 10K would be running’s Southern League, but as in football that suits some people just fine. Running in Exmouth colours were John and Lorraine Croome with Jon coming eighth in 40:16 and Lorraine 16th in 45:52.
