Exmouth are second bottom of the Tolchards Devon Cricket League Premier Division after going down to a 37-run defeat at Exeter, despite a valiant effort from the Maer men.
Exeter were electric with the bat, amassing a superb total of 298-5, with former England junior international scoring a fine unbeaten 97 from just 65 balls.
On a tough day for the bowlers, Matt Coult and Finn Marks both grabbed two wickets for Exmouth.
The reply got off to the worst possible start, with captain Tim Piper dismissed for a duck and Exmouth slipped to a dispiriting 33-3 before Dan Pyle and Pete Turnbull started the fightback, putting together an excellent partnership of 64.
The Exmouth score moved on to 153-5 and a fine effort from Marks and Andrew Buzza took them past 200 but the tail was unable to wag strongly enough, with Exeter bowling out their visitors for 261.
