Exmouth maintained their hold on top spot in the Devon League A Division with success at Seaton on Saturday.

Captain Lawrence Greenway chose to bat after winning the toss but saw James Horler fall for a duck.

It proved only a temporary setback, though, as Dan Pyle joined Jason Niemand in a 140-run stand for the second Exmouth wicket.

Niemand hit a six and 11 fours to reach 67 off just 60 balls before he was run out, with Pyle going on to score a run-a-ball 71, also with a six and 11 fours.

And although their next highest partnership was the mere 19 runs shared by Cameron Kidd and George Greenway, the visitors would eventually reach 240 in the 45th over before they were all out.

Captain Greenway hit three fours in his 23, while Damian Baxter finished as the pick of Seaton's bowling attack with 4-42 from his 10-over spell.

Exmouth's total proved more than enough to see off bottom club Seaton, though, as Ryan Schaufler struck early with the ball.

Adam Bilston struck seven fours in his 34 off 28 balls, before also falling to Schaufler (2-29) as Niemand took the second of his three catches.

Niemand (3-24), Greenway (1-26) and Finlay Marks (2-17) then had success with Bilton's score the best Seaton could manage until Ben Goodier-Gibson reached 35 off 48 deliveries late in their innings.

Goodier-Gibson eventually fell to Cameron Kidd (2-10), who dismissed last man Joseph Berry two balls later to wrap up an 86-run victory.

And a 12th win in 15 outings leaves Exmouth 13 points clear of Plympton with three games remaining as relegation-threatened Barton visit The Maer on Saturday (12.30pm).

Third-placed Budleigh Salterton are just eight points behind Plympton after a convincing 123-run win at Barton last weekend.

Put into bat, they saw James Doble make a quick 21 but Chathura Peiris fall without troubling the scorers.

Opener Will Oxland then put on 98 with Max Mejzner, hitting two sixes and four fours but falling three runs short of a half-century having faced 78 balls.

Mejzner went on to reach 64 off 76 deliveries, clearing the boundary twice and adding seven other fours, and Edward Doble finished unbeaten on 56 from 56 balls, with a six and five fours, as Budleigh closed on 272-7 after 50 overs.

Jack England struck two early blows with the ball to reduce the home side to 18-2 and Doble dismissed Matt Lipton (33) and Steve Lewis (26) after they had put on 42 for the third wicket to leave Barton 81-4.

Adam Parker put on 44 for the fifth wicket with Greg Shelton before falling to Theo Northover (3-19), who removed Adrian Lipton and Lewis Crocker with successive balls to leave Barton 133-7.

Joel Murphy (2-24) and Doble (3-21) then combined to wrap up the innings on 149 ahead of a home fixture against Exeter at The Ottermouth on Saturday.
