St Joseph's RC Primary School pupil and Visions Academy player Jonty Wright enjoyed a successful weekend, writes Steve Birley.

On Saturday Wright took part in the South West Counties Under-11 tournament in Wiltshire where he won all his pool games and a semi-final match to bag a final berth.

In the final he went down to Dorset player Jake Prentice who is the current number three in Great Britain! However, Wright did return home with the silver medal for his terrific efforts.

In the doubles competition Wright paired up with fellow Devon player Jimmy Houghton.

The combination proved to be better than the rest as they roared their way to a terrific gold medal success, defeating singles champion Prentice and his partner in the final!

Completing a good weekend for Wright, the following day he claimed gold in the East Devon Junior Badminton League Under-10 tournament held in Exeter and then paired up with school class mate Zac Brown to win gold in the doubles, the pair beating another strong Devon pairing in the final.

Morgan Wright, older brother to Jonty, was playing at the same venue, albeit in the Under-17 competition and he won his singles pool before going out in the semi-finals.

He then teamed up with fellow Exmouth Community College pupil

Ross Buckler in the doubles and the duo went all the way to the last four before being edged out.
