Neil Ferreday, the chairman of the Exmouth Amateur Boxing Club (EABC), and the committee were delighted to approve my seven nominees for inclusion on the club’s Roll of Honour board.
Joining such illustrious members of the past such as Mike Norrish, Brian Green and John Upton are: world-renowned referee Brian Pollard, a former boxer and founder member of the club in 1947; hard-punching former Western Counties Welterweight Champion from the ’50s and ’60s, Terry Nicholas; Colin Turner, a former trainer and veteran boxer; former club president and boxer Peter Hayfield; former club treasurer Jack Walkey; former National Champion Ray Gibbins from the late ’40s and ’50s; and, last but not least, Phil Crook, a former club boxer and who acted for many years as secretary and match maker.
Fred Hodge, Exmouth ABC trustee and treasurer said: “All the above have represented the Exmouth Amateur Boxing Club for anything up to 67 years and I am delighted that my nominations have been approved. The honours are most deserving.”
