Exmouth Boxing club’s first show of the season takes place at the Pavilion a week on Saturday (December 1), writes Phil Crook.
Fay Ridgeway (65kilos) will become the fifth female to represent the club which is now in it’s 66th year.
She lines up for her first contest against Jenny Elwood from Bodmin, who tasted ring action for the first time last month when she made a winning debut.
Matt Case will renew his rivalry with Lympstone’s Sam Walkey and will be out for revenge after losing a close decision when the two clashed on the Lympstone show in October.
The bout didn’t live up to expectation last time, but both boxers will be eager to give a better account of themselves, so an explosive encounter can be expected.
Another local derby will see Josh Pender getting back into the ring after six years when he meet’s Lympstone’s Jon Fenton-Harvey. It’s a tough ask for Pender, but he’s trained hard and is raring to go.
Lympstone’s highly rated Jared Jones is another who is out for revenge when he comes up against Tiverton teenager Aarron Edwards.
The talented 17-year-old has made the step up to the senior ranks this season where the going gets a lot tougher.
He scored a controversial majority decision over Jones in Combe Martin last month in a thrilling bout. Similar can be anticipated from two very fit and motivated young boxers.
Exmouth’s Dan Davis and Issac James will both step into the ring for the first time in skills contests.
The experienced Noel Gatehouse completes the junior line up when he meets Plympton’s Jordan Ruth.
The final debutante for Exmouth is light heavyweight Jamie Drummond, who is proving very difficult to match, but the search will continue right up to last minute if need be, as he is chomping at the bit and eager to compete.
Tickets priced at £12 are on sale at Budleigh wines, Seymours, Heavitree Inn and Auto Save.
Ringside sponsorship options are available from club chairman Neil Ferreday on 07977384082.
