TABLE TENNIS: EXETER ROAD are within touching distance of claiming the Exe Premier Club Table Tennis title for another season after a brace of victories.

Sam Richards, of Hartopp Road, won a couple of singles against champions elect John King (14-12, 8-11, 13-11) and Rufus Baker-Morris (16-14, 7-11, 11-6) and the Richards heroics took the Hartopp Road/ Exeter Road clash to a deciding doubles that the latter won.

It was not plain sailing though, for Richards and partner Elliott Redhead took the first set 11-8 only for King and Baker-Morris to find champion form and claim the match 8-11, 11-4, 11-4.

That took Exeter Road into a head to head with title rivals Danby Terrace but what prevailed turned into an anti-climax such was the superiority enjoyed by King and Baker-Morris who effected a 5-0 white wash.

With just one game to play, against a lower placed team, it is highly likely that Exeter Road will be crowned kings of the highway in EX8!
