Exeter City Women have won the Devon Cup after defeating old rivals Plymouth Argyle 2-1 in the final at Coach Road in Newton Abbot.
The Grecians produced an outstanding first-half display in hot conditions and they took the lead when a corner from Zoe Watkins was only partially cleared by the Argyle defence, with Esme Kilburn-Thompson volley home a superb opener.
It is the same combination that brought a second moments later, as delightful skill from Watkins created room for Kilburn-Thompson to convert from close range.
Mollie Taylor very nearly sealed the win two minutes before half-time but a change in shape gave Argyle renewed impetus after the break.
Seeking their first Devon Cup in six years, City did continue to create chances but were given a very nervous ending when Beth Ireland scored in stoppage time for the Pilgrims.
This day, however, belonged to Exeter City Women.
