Exe win well against Yate thanks to Whitworth brace

PUBLISHED: 09:46 04 December 2014

Exe were excellent value for their 4-0 success at Yate in a Premier Division One encounter, writes Fiona Moran.

Exe were quickly into the stride and went close a number of times before skipper Kelly Barrett fired her team ahead with a neat flick for what proved to be the only goal of the first half. After the break Yate came out strongly, but got little change out of an organised Exe defensive unit.

The lead was doubled courtesy of a deflected goal from a Helen Tully strike at the edge of the D.

A slick inter-change led to the third goal with Whitworth the scorer. In a dominant second half show goalkeeper Eagles had just a single touch of the ball such was the control exerted on proceedings by a confident Exe side.

It was no more than they deserved when Whitworth netted her second to complete the scoring. There were three players who shared the Exe Player of the Match honour; Sarah Payne, Helen Tully and Clare Whitworth.
