Exe suffer late blows as they slip to Barnes defeat

Exe Ladies 1st XI went down 4-2 to Barnes in their latest game.

It was very much a case of ‘what might have been’ for Exe who were left to rue a plethora of missed chances and so lost a game that they could, and indeed should, have won.

Barnes began brightly and went ahead in the fifth minute.

However, for the remainder of the first half it was Exe who controlled proceedings and they were deservedly level on 25 minutes through Kelly Luscumbe

Early in the second half Claire Whitworth fired Exe into a 2-1 lead.

It was not until ten minutes from time that Barnes drew level from a hotly disputed penalty corner and two late goals sealed Exe’s fate.
