Exe losing ground on leaders

HOCKEY: EXE Ladies have dropped back to fifth in the table following a second successive defeat, this time at the hands of Bournemouth.

HOCKEY: EXE Ladies have dropped back to fifth in the table following a second successive defeat, this time at the hands of Bournemouth.

Having gone down 3-1 at home to leaders Staines seven days earlier, which cost them third place in the table, Exe were hoping to bounce back up in Dorset.

Bournemouth scored from a first-half penalty corner and stayed in front despite Sarah Harvey, Kate Granger, Hannah Jones, who scored in the defeat by Staines, and Jess Brooker all going close. Exe entertain St Albans this Saturday (12.30pm).

Exe Men's 2nd XI maintained their promotion push with a 5-2 win over neighbours Isca C.

Ethan Arscott put Exe ahead then Ben Slack weaved his way through to make it 2-0 at half time.

John Bisset hit a third after the interval. Isca saw more of the ball in the second half and pulled a couple of goals back, but John Hall and Chris Jeffs killed the game stone dead.

l After winning several rounds of challenging hockey, Exe Ladies 2nd XI have reached the final of the English Hockey 2nd XI Clubs Championships.

They entertain Loughborough Students at St Luke's College with a start time of 1pm.
