Exe II were edged out by the odd goal in five when they entertained Tavistock in a South Division meeting.
Exe started brightly and Lucy Brook made an instant impact, marking her second team debut with an early goal after a superb move down the left involving Helena Nichols and Nicole Thackray.
Tavistock responded well and struck back with two goals to hold a narrow half time advantage.
After the break the visitors continued to look to dominate, but Exe Player of the Match, Rosie Karakusevic, put in tackle after tackle to thwart them with the home defence breached just once more.
Exe rallied and ended the game the more dominant force, deservedly netting a second goal through Karen Tinley, but an equaliser was not forthcoming and the home side succumbed to defeat, albeit by the smallest of margins.
