As expected the home team started the brighter with the ball passed at pace and the midfield movement creating problems in defence, but Exe weathered the storm with some good saves from keeper Deb Hill and strong challenges from Kelly Greenstreet, Glady Poole and Sarah Payne.

As the first half progressed Exe found their feet and runs from Anne Freeman, Charlie Lewis and weekend debutant Becky Brown posed threats. It was one such run from Becky Brown that brought about a penalty corner from which Sarah Payne was on hand to poach the opener after 18 minutes.

This gave Exe the encouragement they needed and hard work in midfield from Ali Kerridge, Emma Pike and man of the match Bridget Culver meant that they maintained the lead until deep into the second half.

Exe pressed for a second to try to seal the game, but could not find the killer blow. With minutes remaining Swindon were keen to press for the equaliser and Exe seemed unable to keep possession.

Swindon were awarded a penalty corner 90 seconds from time and although initial shots were saved the ball could not be cleared and was eventually converted.

It was a frustrating weekend all-round, however Exe remain undefeated in their last six league games.
