Bicton Arena has added another feather to its cap having won the prestigious British Dressage Best Venue award for 2017, writes Lucy Johnson.

At the helm is Gemma Cooke, who has organised the arena’s affiliated and unaffiliated competitions for six years and has built its kudos and reputation countrywide, which has been franked by the presenting of the award.

Gemma said: “It’s a real honour to receive this award and our huge thanks are due to our team of judges, writers, stewards and competitors who make Bicton what it is today.

“We are extremely lucky that we have a fantastic arena that was opened just a year ago and is sponsored by Western Counties Equine Hospital. It is a great facility to have and means there are no restrictions on the level of competitions we are able to host here.”

Last October the arena staged its first ever Petplan Area Festival Final, a prestigious allocation which left competitors unanimous in their praise for the venue.

It also staged the Summer Regional Championships and held an average of three competitions a month, cementing its reputation as a premier dressage venue.

This year the arena will continue to expand its dressage schedule and will again host the Summer Regional Championships and Petplan Area Festival.
