East Devon victory for the Foreigners in annual meeting with Devonians

The final Saturday of April saw East Devon Golf Club hold the annual Devonians versus Foreigners match, writes Paul Willoughby.
The Foreigners were led by the club captain, Tony Mackness (not a Devon name and I’m sure there’s a kilt in his wardrobe!), and the Devonians were led by born and bred Devon boy, Ray Dawson.
The match was closely fought and the foreigners won with the final score being nine-and-a-half to eight-and-a-half.
The inaugural match was played many years ago and the format was suggested by the late Tim Webb together with a country member at the time, a Mr Barker from Bolton.
I’m afraid I can’t give you any further information about him, but the contest continues. Will the trophy be wrested from the foreigners’ grip next year?
