Trevor Underwood hosted his Professional’s Day at East Devon on Saturday, writes Paul Willoughby.
Trevor has been the club’s professional golfer for 26 years and the sun shone on him this year – rubbish weather the day before when the heavens opened and rubbish weather the day after when the heavens dropped the remainder of their load.
The weather on Saturday, however, was comparatively benign with a strongish wind and plenty of sunshine. Forty eight teams of four took part and the winners were father, mother and son team of Martin, Heather and Mark Coles ably supported by Jacob (Cubby) Tinsley with 84 points.
The runners-up with 82 points was the team of Harry Nodwell, dad Bill Nodwell, James Underwood (Trevor’s son) and Cameron McMorrin. Third, and by countback on the last six holes with 81 points were Jason Rowbotham, Rob Dance, Wayne Bastyan and Neil Roughton.
It was an excellent day, enjoyed by all; the twos pot provided 17 players with a dozen balls each though the rough will have collected a lot more!
