East Devon Ladies Spring Meeting – Edbrooke the runaway winner

The ladies of East Devon Golf club competed for the first trophies of the season in the Spring Meeting last week, writes Helen Chivers.
Rowan Edbrooke was the clear winner in Tuesday’s medal competition; beating the 76 strong field by seven shots to claim the Burden Cup with an excellent eight under par nett 66.
Claire Dowling recorded the best gross score of the day, claiming the Baker Cup with a 77.
Not surprisingly, Rowan also topped Bronze division, this time by six shots from an on form Julie Clarke who recorded a two under par nett 72. Elaine Whitehead was third with a one under par nett 73 with another in form player, Sarah Jones beating Margaret Webb to fourth spot on countback as they both scored level par 74’s.
Rowan has had an exceptional start to the year and her success last week has seen her handicap drop to 18, which is an 11 shot reduction since January.
Rosemary Pratt came out top in a close scoring Silver division. Rosemary recorded a one under par nett 73, beating Claire Dowling by one shot. Hilary Greenaway recorded a nett 75 in third place with Margaret Christie beating Peggy Lomas and Elaine Bright on countback to take forth as they all carded nett 76’s.
Thursday’s foursomes saw 37 pairs in competition. Ali Miller and Brenda Somerfield were victorious in a closely fought and high scoring battle with an impressive 39 points. Diana Brittain and Jane Joy came second on countback from Mo Reynolds and Julie Clarke with both pairs scoring 38 points. Ali and Brenda will go forward to represent East Devon in the Area Final of the Coronation Foursomes later in the year.
