On a wild, windy but thankfully, dry November Sunday, East Devon Golf Club regained the East Devon Golf Trophy, writes Martin Wisdom.
This event, first played in 1975, is an annual competition played between teams representing local clubs Honiton, Sidmouth and Axe Cliff as an individual Stableford event with 10 players representing each club.
The top six cards for each club combined make up the club score. It’s a great traditional event that gives each player the opportunity of playing with a member from each of the other three clubs. Whilst scoring was tough indeed, an enjoyable time was had by all the players – and at the end of the day it’s the camaraderie that is the real winner!
Just for the record the scores were East Devon GC 174 points, Honiton 158, Sidmouth 151 and Axe Cliff 148.
The East Devon Team consisted of Martin Wisdom (captain), Duncan Goldsworthy, David Harrison, George Rogers, Barry Clayton, Steve Newton, Clive Pantoll, Ray Sturman, Robin Grenyer and David Hazlewood.
