East Devon Golf Club’s Latham set for North Carolina

Matt Latham is about to start his Masters degree in Business Administration at St Andrews University in North Carolina, USA, writes Paul Willoughby.
Twenty-four-year-old Exmouth born, Matt, has been a member of East Devon Golf club for 10 years and prior to his departure for the USA in 2009 he was a leading light on the local golf scene. He has represented the club in a lot of Devon competitions, Palairet Cup, The Picture Match, and played for Devon in 2009. His handicap was then two but thanks to three years hard work it is now plus one; that means he is already one shot down to the course before he has hit his first drive!
At the end of his three years, Matt has achieved the American equivalent of a 2:1degree in his academic course, majoring in business studies with a secondary qualification in Spanish. He chose Spanish as he thought it would be a useful language and there is a large Hispanic population in the USA. He plans to stay one more year, at the end of which he hopes he will be awarded his MBA. Matt returns to the USA later this month.
Sandwiched between his academic work the University course enables him to play golf every afternoon and not only has he represented his college but he recently came 10th out of 154 competitors in the National Championships in Oregon. This automatically qualifies him for next year’s competition.
Matt’s long term aim is to become a professional tour golfer; we wish him well and look forward to seeing his name on the leader board.
