A determined Exe Third XI claimed a superb 6-2 win over Plym Valley, writes Carol James.

There were just five minutes gone when a defensive error enabled the visitors to take the lead. It was a harsh awakening for Exe but they were quickly back in the contest when, in the 10th minute, the silky skills of Emma Dupain, weaving in and out of the opposition, created a wonderful equaliser.

Boosted by the speed of the reply, Exe continued to press and Dupain claimed her second goal and then some great team work by the forwards saw Katie Walmsley add a third to send the hosts into the break with a 3-1 lead.

Shortly after the re-start a short corner routine ended with Cathy Payne tucking the ball away to increase the lead and a fifth goal arrived when Emma Hulme scored from close range.

Walmsley then notched her second, giving Exe a much deserved 6-1 score.

The visitors did add a late second but this was very much Exe's day as they celebrated their first victory of the season and, after such a superb collective performance, can now look to the remainder of the campaign with renewed confidence.
