Archant

Twenty eight hardy souls braved the near-Artic conditions as Phear Park opened their friendly programme by entertaining Belmont, writes Lawrie Harries.

On the day the visitors proved to strong – perhaps it was the thermal underwear – and they ran out comfortable winners by 69 shots to 40.

Played as a mix of triples and rinks Park’s only winners were John Dill’s triple of Gordon Cook and Mike Thomas who finished 17-14 in front.

Peter Burch’s triple of Bob Passmore and David Horne dropped seven shots over the last four ends to end 15 – 8 down.

Hopefully, the weather and Phear Park’s form will improve quickly.

Mind you, as an after-thought, Exmouth used to have a water polo team, recent weather conditions suggest they may well be a need to reform it!
