After weeks of dry weather, the rain made a typically English arrival just in time for the new season in the Tolchards Devon Cricket League.
One of the games largely unaffected in the Premier Division saw Paignton underline their pre-season status as possible title contenders, as they raced to a four-wicket defeat of Hathlerigh, with Sri Lankan debutant Sehan Weerasinghe picking up two wickets.
Despite a decent 54 from Cornwood opener Aaron Richards, they were unable to stop Bovey Tracey reaching the reduced target of 137, with Max Romer-Lee scoring an unbeaten 69.
Exeter reached 144-7 before their game with Sandford was beaten by the rain, Sidmouth were on 85-1 when the match at Heathcoat was abandoned but Exmouth survived the damp long enough to beat Plymouth by one wicket.
The Premier Division fixtures for this weekend will see Plymouth host Cornwood, Bovey Tracey welcome Exeter, Exmouth are at Sandford, Heathcoat travel to Paignton and Sidmouth are at home to Hatherleigh.
Moving around the lower divisions and there was a terrific victory for Feniton at Sampford Peverell & Tiverton.
After winning the toss, Feniton ripped through their hosts, with Sam Vincent, Adam David, Matthew Davies and John Buckland all grabbing a brace of wickets to bowl out the home side for 136.
The rain forced a reduced target of 106 for Feniton and David Thayre hit 39 alongside skipper Mark Salter, as they comfortably scored the required runs for victory.
One performance to pick out from the lower divisions came from a superb Sidbury duo in the G Division, as Ed Chester and Dave O’Connor both scored superb centuries.
Chester was brutal in his approach against the Kentisbeare attack, regularly clearing the ropes, and when he was joined by O’Connor for the fourth wicket, it turned into a feast of runs.
Chester eventually scored an incredible 174 and O’Connor was 135 not out in a total of 373, with Kentisbeare bowled out for 182 in reply.
