The 2011 Otterton Reindeer Run provided the perfect means of detoxing for the seven Exmouth Harriers who completed its hilly, muddy, 10k course, writes Ellie Sutcliffe.

The promise of a glass of mulled wine at the end spurred them around this tough route around the Otter Valley.

John Croome had an excellent run, finishing in 40:01 for sixth place overall.

Caroline Pleasence continued her impressive Autumn season with a fine run taking her to another third place in the female race, 19th overall in 44:26; however, she was pushed right to the line by the fourth placed female who finished just two seconds behind her.

Next in was Rory Devine, 32nd in 45:53. Lorraine Croome had a strong run for 43rd place in 48:18.

Rounding off the proceedings were Stan Mason, 100th in 58:08 and Diana Richards, 101st in 58:22.

There were 177 finishers and the race was won by Laurence Bolan of hosting club, Sidmouth, in 37:04.

Lucy Commander of South West Road Runners won the female race in 42:26, placing 13th overall.
