MADEIRA met Swanmore, a visiting club from Bournemouth who brought 12 rinks with them, but only managed to win on two, writes Ron Stares.

MADEIRA met Swanmore, a visiting club from Bournemouth who brought 12 rinks with them, but only managed to win on two, writes Ron Stares.

The hosts were in good form and soon in the lead by 12 shots after 5 ends.

That lead was 78 at the halfway stage and, at the end, the home side won 274-167(107+).

The best winning Madeira rink was Jill Honnor, Freda Relph, Brian Stawell and skip Francis Newton who won by 14 shots.

The last event this week was the club competition for the Croft Triples trophy and, this year, the two finalists were Alan Turnbull, Colin Hughes and skip John Bellamy facing Dennis Fear, John Killoran and skip Derek Latchford and the final was won by Bellamy, Hughes and Turnbull by a dozen shots at 16-4.
