Woodbury bagged a fourth win of the F Division season after an afternoon of runs galore at their Town Lane ground where they defeated league new boys Lifton by 24-runs.
The two sides rifled their way to a combined total of 721 runs in the sizzling sunshine! Woodbury batted first and were given the perfect start by the previous week’s ton scorer Jimmy Jones and James Kavanagh. The pair had 190 on the board before they were parted with Jones going first for 84. Kavanagh continued to crash the ball to all parts of the ground before he was out for 163.There was also an explosive cameo from Tim Owens as he plundered 30 in a single over hitting a six followed by a four over the six deliveries! He was not out 34 at the close of the innings. George Jarman chipped in with 29 and there were tidy contributions from two of the team’s younger members, Rhiordan Deehan-Jackson (19) ad 14-year-old Gwyn Parks who also hit 19.
Despite such a whopping total it was very nearly not enough as the visitors took on the run chase with relish and it was not until the final over that their last wicket fell with the reply on an impressive 349!
Jones completed a fine all-round shift with the best bowling figures, his return being 3-63 from six overs and Kavanagh also claimed a three wicket haul, his at a cost of 94. Kevin Miller weighed in with 2-50 from nine.
Next up for Woodbury is Saturdays trip to Tiverton.
