Woodbury & Newton St Cyres edged out by Axminster

Woodbury & Newton St Cyres were beaten by three wickets in their E Division East meeting with Axminster at Town Lane.

After being invited to bat first, the home side lost wickets at regular intervals and, at 106-8, an early finish looked on the cards!

However, number nine bat Paul McCutchion (19) and number 10, Dave Church (21), added 47 for the unbroken ninth wicket to see the hosts to a close of 153-8.

The others to contribute with the bat were skipper Nalin Chouhan, who scored 27 and Martin Pearce, who hit 21 from the number seven slot.

The home bowlers then worked hard to try and turn what seemed a low score into a winning one, and they almost did it!

Axminster edged home in 43.5 overs with seven wickets down. Darryl Stevens took the bowling honours with 2-23 from nine overs, but there were a number of excellent shifts with the ball. Martin Pearce sent down nine overs for his fine return of 1-18 and there were also single wickets for skipper Chouhan, Andy Cork and Dave Church.
