Woodbury were involved in another compelling contest when they met Tiverton in their latest Francis Clark, Devon League F Division game.

The Mid Devon side won the toss and opted to bat and closed on a commanding 284-7.

Woodbury gave debuts to two of their Under-14 side with starts for Oliver Gibbon and Rory Haddow.

The best of the Woods bowling was the 2-44 from Ross Jarvis 2 for 44.

Young Haddow also bagged a brace of wickets, his at a cost of 40 runs and Steve White claimed 2-57.

Ross Jarvis led the reply with a fine 79 and White completed a fine all-round shift with his contribution of 40.

Ian Hughes and another of the club’s youngsters, Riordan Jackson, both chipped in with knocks of 29 as the reply closed on 257-7.

In a close finish the final over arrived with the Woods requiring 16, but they came up just short.

With two-thirds of the season now completed Woodbury sit seventh in the table.

This Saturday they entertain second bottom Cheriton Fitzpaine.
