TOPSHAM St James went down by just six runs when they met Sandford in the Bradleys East Devon Youth League.Callum Treleaven continued his fine early season form by whipping out three of the top four Sandford batsmen and four overs in the Mid Devon side were in big trouble. They did not recover as the Saints bowled and fielded very well. Treleaven ended with 3-12 from four overs, Paul Martin claimed 4-26 and Tom Richardson's two overs saw him bag a brace of wickets. There was also a smart piece of fielding that resulted in a run out by Sam Skinner as the Sandford innings closed on 61 all out off just 11.3 overs. The run chase may have seemed a formality at the interval but it proved to be anything but.Early wickets fell, and continued to fall and, as dark clouds began to hover above, Tom Richardson, who had batted with great discipline during 15 overs at the crease, was removed by Ben Hancock for 27.At the start of the final over 7 runs were required to force victory.Smart fielding by Sandford resulted in a run out as a quick single was attempted and the match was won by the Mid Devon side by a margin of just six runs.
