Topsham St James Under-11s won a thrilling encounter with Sidmouth, the winning margin being two runs.
Batting first Topsham lost both openers before Robert Deasy and Yaar Safra steadied the innings with Safre scoring 15.
It was Fred Bishop who gave the total a real boost with 33 and the innings came to a close at 109-8.
Sidmouth’s opening pair of Amos and Donovan were both dropped twice before scoring 10 and 33 respectively and this put their side into the box seat.
However, Topsham started the fight back with Bishop taking three wickets, Joshua Thomas bagged a brace and Jack Puddiphatt took one.
The final over arrived with Sidmouth requiring eight to win.
Bishop was the bowler and his first ball missed the stumps by a whisker. His next delivery was rifled to the boundary leaving Sidmouth needing four to win.
A similar shot was played to the next delivery, but this time Harry Meadows was in the way of its flight and he held a superb catch!
The fourth ball was a ‘miss’ by the batsman, but ball five produced two runs leaving Sidmouth requiring one to tie and two to win with the last ball to be bowled.
The ball was struck to a fielder and the catch was held leaving Topsham St James the winners by just one run.
