Topsham St James Under-11 girls finished third behind winners Paignton and runner-sup Sidmouth in a soft ball festival that they staged at their Bonfire Field headquarters.

In their opening game the Saints girls were edged out by just a single run by Sidmouth.

Some fine batting, particularly by Katy Baylis, Sophie Ewin, Daisy Bishop and Annie Burdick, took them to a close of 233. It was only an unfortunate miss-field on the last ball of the contest that took Sidmouth to a single run win. There was some good economical bowling from Lucy Harding and Flo Forster.

Next up against Chagford there were key contributions from Megan Jones with both bat and ball, India Ross with the ball (two wickets) and Isabelle Baylis (one wicket) as a win was claimed.

The match against East Devon saw new batting partnership between India Ross and Jess Denton come to the fore as the pair gave the innings the boost it needed in what was ultimately another victory.

In the last match they took on Thorverton and the most notable performances came with the bat from Bea Lockhart (8) and Hannah Jungbluth (8), both playing in their first tournament. Lucy Harding and Sophie Ewin both took a brace of wickets as the Saints won again.
