Topsham St James 2nds well beaten in North Devon

A much-depleted Topsham St James 2nd XI was unfortunate to come up against the strongest team North Devon has put out this season, and a crushing defeat was on the cards almost from the very first ball.
Nearly all the home batsmen took advantage of a placid track and short boundaries, with the home side posting a daunting total of 299-6.
The Topsham St James bowlers tried hard, and there were some good spells by Inder Singh, Claire Thomas and Dom Collins.
The leading wicket-taker was Giles Darch, who returned figures of 4-63 in six overs.
Topsham’s only consolation was that they both fielded and caught rather better than in recent weeks, led in both regards by Claire Thomas, fresh from playing in a recent cup final at Lords with Exeter University Women’s team.
When Topsham batted, the substantially quicker North Devon bowlers found demons in the pitch which had not been apparent earlier!
Callum Treleaven showed how much his batting has developed, and alone looked unfazed by the home side’s bowling strength.
He ended on 35 not out, but his only support of any note came from Matt Collins (22) and Al-Amin Kassam (19) as the final wicket fell on 131 to consign the Saints to a 168-run defeat.
