TOPSHAM St James II were beaten by 164 runs when they came up against a powerful Halberton and Sampford Peverell side.

The Mid Devon hosts batted first and plundered an imposing 274.

The one major plus for the Saints’ was the bowling of 14-year-old Joseph McShane who sent down eleven overs and returned the splendid figures of 4-41.

The reply never got out of first gear as wickets fell at regular intervals with only two players reaching double figures and the reply was done and dusted with 110 on the Sampford Peverell score board.

The side will look to bounce back when they host Exmouth III at Bonfire Field on Saturday.
