Topsham St James' Sunday side travelled to Teignmouth to play their second Sunday League fixture of the campaign.
Skipper Rupert Pratt won the toss and decided to bat.
The opening partnership of Brian Jeary and Ed Baxter put on 88 runs before Jeary (57 off 61 balls) was bowled by Seamus McKenna in the 23rd over. Baxter was joined by Nick Horne who scored a quick-fire 37 off 24 balls. Baxter was finally out for a well crafted 37 off 89 balls, and both Amit Kartikeyan and 14-year-old Cameron Robison were out fairly cheaply leaving Dan Armstrong undefeated on 27 not out and Bridget Culver on two not out.
The first Shaldon wicket fell in the fourth over to Nick Horne who then shortly afterwards took his first ever hat-trick to send Shaldon reeling at 26 for 4. Wickets continued to fall quickly with no less than seven ‘ducks’. Meanwhile, opening bat, Seamus McKenna, tried to destroy Topsham singled handed scoring 85 off 64 balls including a ninth wicket stand of 43 with Glyn Ballman (one not out).
Nick Horne ended with the figures of 4-11 from six overs and the supporting acts with the ball came from Kartikeyan (3-44 from 7.4 overs) and Armstong (3-33 from five).
This was a good win and next up for the Sunday team is Buckfastleigh next Sunday (July 7).
