Archant

STILL no win joy for Clyst St George II as they slipped to a seven wicket Bohea Field defeat at the hands of Ivybridge II .

Mind you it was certainly a huge misfortune for Sean Middleton’s side to come up against a visiting team boosted by the presence of four players who, had the Ivybridge 1st XI game not fallen to the weather, would not have been at Bohea Field!

Sadly, for the hosts, all the senior players made impression on the contest. Clyst batted first and did exceptionally ell to bank maximum bating points, closing on 207-6.

Skipper Middleton led the way with a superb knock 71 and there was excellent support along the way from Alan Welsh (31) and Richard Coe (25).

After tea the game was dominated by a visiting batsman who plundered a well crafted century before he fell to s smart catch from Oz Besley off the bowling of Julian Welland who went on to claim 2-38.

Besley, the Clyst St George Chairman, also covered himself in glory in the outfield when his smart piece of fielding, a delightful pick up and throw from fine-leg, saw the ball fly directly into the gloves of wicket keeper Kevin Coe who whipped the bails off to run out one of the visiting batsmen.

Besley said: “We were rather unlucky to face an Ivybridge side boosted by the presence of the first team players but we gave it a really good go and if we continue to apply ourselves in such a way to games then that first win will, arrive sooner rather than later”

This weekend the side are again at home when they entertain Cornwood III.
