EXMOUTH Under-11s won a friendly game against Whimple, beating them by three wickets, despite an exceptional performance with the ball by Dillon Fielding.

Whimple batted first and closed on 104-4 with their principle run getters being Dominic Beer (15), Dillon Fielding (10) and Matt Parker (9).

Jack Sawden then bagged a brace to finis with figures of 2-7 and the other wicket takers were Seb Paver (1-4) and Harry Whatmore (1-15).

The run chase was hit in the first over by a whirlwind strike from Fielding who bowled a hat-trick leaving the reply in tatters at the end of the first over at 0-3!

Josh Morley (19ret’d) and Devon Short (10ret’d) set about restoring the run chase and getting things back on track.

Morgan Wright, Seb Paver and Lawrence Knight all chipped in with runs but back came Fielding into the attack to claim a couple more wickets and finish with marvellous figures of 5-4 from three overs!

However Exmouth were always up with the required run rate and, in the final over, Devon Short returned to the wicket and it was he who cracked the winning runs to give his side a three wicket win.

Coach Karl Short said: “It was such an improved performance. We sat and chatted before the game about the importance of not just bowling with discipline but also backing up our bowlers with good, lively fielding, and we did just that. Now that the team have tasted the winning feeling we can hopefully move on and enjoy
