Topsham St James Under-15s won their first Bradley’s East Devon Cricket League game of the season with a 15-run victory over Cullompton at Bonfire Field.

The hosts batted first and got a superb start with openers Jim Shepherd and Charlie Goodfellow putting on 67 for the first wicket before Goodfellow was bowled on 26.

Shepherd reached 52, a knock that included nine 4s, before retiring with his wicket intact.

Alex Davison was given out caught behind for a single, but Cameron Robison (26no) and James Mattin (14no) kept the run-rate going at just above seven an over to a close of 144-2.

The Topsham bowling was not as impressive as the batting! What’s more a whopping 30 extra’s helped the Cully cause! It was Charlie Goodfellow who emerged as the all-round star for the home team as he claimed a brace of wickets and also took responsibility for two run-outs, one a direct hit. Alex Davison clean bowled one of the Cully key batsmen, and while some panicky overthrows made it more tense than it needed to be, Topsham got over the finishing line to bag their first win of the term.
