THE Exmouth under-11 team showed just how much they are improving with a clinical despatching of a more than useful Thorverton side.
The Monday night game, played at the Maer ground, saw the visitors bat first and they were quickly in all sorts of trouble in the face of a fiery spell from Theo Northover and Morgan Wright.
Indeed the pair had sent half the Thorverton side back into the pavilion with just 16 on the board as Northover claimed three wickets and Wright a brace.
The visitors then dug deep and east District pairing Khan and Williams batted superbly to take their side to 96-5 when both had to retire.
After the impressive duo departed the crease Exmouth came back strongly with some good ground fielding and some fine wicket keeping by the ever improving Ryan Schaefler. Further wickets were taken by Richard Hall, Tom Taylor and Ed Hurley as the Thorverton innings closed on 122-8.
The home openers Max Reader and James Horler spent a while settling in before both began to get the score board ticking, putting on 75 for the first wicket before the retirement of Reader for a six boundary offering of 31. Hurley was next to the wicket and he put bat to ball with great effect hitting a quick-fire 17 before being run out whilst the impressive Horler was eventually trapped leg before for 23.
Despite a brief flurry of wickets, the home side sealed a five wicket win with three full overs to spare.
This was Exmouth’s third win of the season against a backdrop of not winning a game all of last season; they continue to show marked improvement under the captaincy of Morgan Wright.
