EXMOUTH 3rds were involved in a thrilling contest when they took on Whimple 2nds on Saturday afternoon.

Exmouth batted first and powered their way to an excellent 258-3.

They were led by their by Julian Page who carried his bat from first delivery to last and walked off at tea with an unbeaten 139 to his name.

He got magnificent support from Anish Chouhan who struck 97. Given the excellent batting conditions that prevailed the score on the board was certainly within range of the Whimple batsmen.

They certainly had a go at chasing down the total, closing an agonising five runs shy! Mind you it was a similar story in the Exmouth camp for, at the close, they were a single wicket shy of victory themselves as Whimple closed on 253-9.

Karl Short was the star of the show from the bowling perspective as he picked up five wickets and finished with figures of 5-55.
