EXMOUTH lost by four wickets to unbeaten Ottery St Mary when the two sides met in a Bradleys East Devon Youth League Under-13 game. The match was played on an artificial wicket and Exmouth batted first, finding themselves a wicket down after just two balls but recovered thanks to the efforts of Ollie Dawe (20) and Henry Marks (24).Some excellent ground fielding and catching by the visitors saw the home innings pegged back and it needed a superb knock by number ten batsman Matt Morley (28 no) to see the innings to its close of 154.The Otters set about the chase steadily, in spite of losing opener Richard Harvey (6) early on. Billy Read (41ret) and Harry Randall-Johnson (40ret) made the most of the lightning quick outfield with 14 boundaries between them. The home bowlers were both competent and tidy but unable to make the precious break through as only Matt Morley and Nicky Bolt managed to claim wickets.Whilst the Exmouth bowlers bowled tidily they were unable to get the breakthrough they needed, with Morley and Nicky Bolt the only wicket takers with two each as the run chase ended successfully with two overs to spare.A feature of the home side's efforts in the outfield was the performance of Ollie Dawe, who not only held two smart catches but also effected a run-out with a wonderful direct hit from midwicket.
