Mixed fortunes for Topsham St James under-12s in games with Exeter and Halberton.

THERE were mixed fortunes for Topsham St James under-12 in meetings with Exeter and Sampford Peverell.

Against Exeter, the Saints batted first and, in the face of some excellent Exeter bowling there were some fine individual innings.

Charlie Goodfellow made 15, James Wright hit an unbeaten 17 and James Pearce chipped in with 12 as the innings closed on 86-6.

In reply, Exeter were quickly off the mark and achieved the target in 13.4 overs.

Charlie Goodfellow bowled superbly to take 1-4 in three overs and there was a wicket too for Leon Ryder-Potter and Richard Dee Shapland as Exeter won by seven wickets.

Next up, against Sampford Peverell, the Saints batted first and were led to 134-3 by a fine opening partnership between Charlie Goodfellow (34 retired) and Aiden Pring (31 retired).

The late innings runs came from some good hitting from James Wright (23no) and Leon Ryder Potter (19no).

The reply was restricted to 77-9 with all the Topsham bowlers doing well with James Wright being the pick, taking 3-2 in three overs.

Ellen Warren and Josh Johnson took two wickets each, with Ed Gibbs and Charlie Goodfellow taking one apiece.

In the field there was a splendid boundary catch held by Oscar Rhill.
